Am I a Good Candidate for Microneedling?

Choosing the right treatment for skin rejuvenation means considering many factors. You want to know which concerns it can treat, how it works, and what results you will see. Microneedling is an effective way to restore smoother, more even skin by promoting youthful collagen formation and increasing cellular turnover.

What is Microneedling for Skin Rejuvenation?

Collagen forms most of your skin’s structure, and its decline with age can lead to laxity, fine lines, and uneven texture. Microneedling promotes new collagen development by creating microchannels in the dermis. These channels trigger healing factors that lead to repair with new collagen and fresh skin cells, leading to a smooth, refreshed surface. Microneedling can also be combined with radiofrequency energy for added benefits.

Am I a Good Candidate for Microneedling?

When you visit us for a consultation, your Manhattan Aesthetics expert will assess your skin and determine whether microneedling may be a good option. Unlike many lasers, microneedling is safe for all skin tones, and most healthy adults are good candidates. Candidates should have reasonable expectations about their results.

You might be a candidate for this treatment if you want to address skin concerns such as:

  • Skin laxity
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Rough skin texture
  • Sun damage
  • Dark spots
  • Enlarged pores
  • Acne scars

Microneedling may not be recommended for you if you have certain medical conditions, are pregnant, or tend to form abnormal scars. You should also not have this treatment in an area where you have a skin infection or active skin condition.

Is There Any Downtime After Microneedling?

Because microneedling is customized to your needs, downtime will vary. People who have lighter sessions will generally have no downtime and can return to work or other activities right away. More intensive sessions may result in up to a few days of redness and sensitivity. Avoid irritating or harsh products for several days after treatment. Your provider can recommend products that will benefit your skin while it heals.

How Many Microneedling Treatments Will I Need?

The number of microneedling treatments you need usually depends on the skin concerns you want to treat. Deep textural issues such as acne scars will require more treatments than superficial ones. We usually recommend a series of at least three treatments, with some people benefitting from more.

Less intensive sessions are usually spaced two to four weeks apart, while we will usually wait four to six weeks between more intensive ones. Results appear within a few weeks and continue to develop for up to a few months.

How Long Do Microneedling Results Last?

Because it stimulates your skin’s natural collagen production, microneedling provides long-lasting results. Most people are happy with their results for a year or more, and annual maintenance sessions will keep your skin refreshed and smooth. Wearing sunscreen and using quality skincare products can help your results last.
