How Much is Laser Hair Removal?

Shaving, waxing, plucking… however you remove hair, it takes time you would rather spend on almost anything else. You can put an end to this endless cycle with laser hair removal. This treatment leaves you with smooth, hair-free skin and no more worries about whether you missed a spot.

What is Laser Hair Removal?

Each hair on your face or body grows from a follicle. Waxing or plucking hair pulls the hair root out of the follicle, while shaving cuts the hair at the skin’s surface. Laser hair removal treats your follicles so they stop growing hair, offering a long-lasting option. Almost anyone can have laser hair removal, and you can treat almost any area on your body, including the face and bikini area.

How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?

Laser hair removal targets the hair roots contained in your follicles. These hair roots have color because they contain melanin, a pigment. Melanin in the hair root absorbs the laser energy, heating the follicle from within and damaging it. Since not all follicles contain a hair root during treatment, laser hair removal requires several sessions.

How Much is Laser Hair Removal?

The total cost of laser hair removal varies widely based on several factors.

  • The size of the treatment area
  • The number of treatments needed
  • Your provider’s skill and experience
  • Your location

Laser hair removal can cost from $125 to $1250 per session. The number of sessions needed affects your cost, so we recommend a consultation to discuss your treatment plan and total cost.

When choosing a laser hair removal provider, choose one with extensive experience in providing this treatment. While laser hair removal is very safe in the hands of an experienced provider, an inexperienced or poorly trained provider could overheat your skin.

How Many Laser Hair Removal Treatments Will I Need?

Only a percentage of your follicles have active hair growth during each laser hair removal treatment. Most people have six to eight treatments to catch all hairs during growth. Your exact number depends on your hair growth patterns and the part of the body being treated. You will see less regrowth after each session. Many people benefit from yearly maintenance treatment to catch stray hair and prevent unwanted hair regrowth.

Is There Any Downtime With Laser Hair Removal?

Since laser hair removal only targets hair follicles, it does not damage the skin. You can return to your regular activities immediately. However, you may notice minor redness, sensitivity, or swelling in the area that lasts a few days. Laser treatments make your skin sun-sensitive, so avoid exposure and use sun protection.

Am I a Candidate for Laser Hair Removal?

Most people who want long-lasting results make good candidates for laser hair removal. Ideal candidates have good contrast between their hair and skin tones. Gray hair has no melanin and does not usually respond well to treatment. You may not be a good candidate if you have an active skin condition or infection in the treatment area.
