What are Juvederm® Dermal Fillers?

Juvederm® is a family of dermal fillers that use a material called hyaluronic acid to add facial volume. This material is found naturally throughout the body, especially in the skin, where it holds onto moisture and adds hydration. Members of this family include:

Prep Tips for Juvederm® Injections

We recommend several preparation steps before your dermal filler injections to help you achieve your best results. You may also receive specific instructions based on certain medications you take or other factors. 

  • Avoid the use of NSAIDs like aspirin or ibuprofen, which could cause a higher chance of bruising after injections
  • Do not use alcohol or smoke before treatment since they can affect your risk of bruising and how quickly you heal
  • Do not have dermal fillers injected if you have had other injectables, such as Botox® within the past few days
  • Contact your expert injector if you develop an infection or active skin condition in the treatment area

What to Expect During Your Juvederm® Injections

When you arrive for your dermal filler appointment, your expert injector will cleanse your skin and ensure you are comfortable before beginning. While you may feel a small pinch with the first injection, Juvederm® fillers contain lidocaine, a numbing agent that keeps you from feeling discomfort during your treatment. Many people spend less than an hour in the office from arrival to departure. 

Is There Any Downtime After Juvederm® Injections?

One factor in the popularity of dermal fillers is the lack of downtime. You can return to your usual activities immediately after your Juvederm® injections. However, you may notice some bruising or swelling in the injected area. Proper preparation will minimize the amount of bruising, which will fade within a few days. Results are visible right away and can last a year or more.
