What Not to Do After Botox®

Botox Manhattan

In 2002, the FDA approved the world’s first neuromodulator for aesthetic uses. Since then, millions of people have enjoyed a more youthful appearance with Botox®. This wrinkle-smoothing treatment has few, if any, side effects, but your Manhattan Aesthetics injector will recommend some post-treatment strategies.

What is Botox® (Botulinum Toxin)?

Botox® is a neuromodulator that uses a molecule called botulinum toxin to soften and smooth lines and wrinkles. This popular treatment restores a younger, more relaxed appearance. It has numerous uses, including lines between the brows, horizontal forehead lines, and crow’s feet. It also works for deep lines around the mouth and to treat neck bands.

Botox New York City

How Does Botox® Work?

Botox® uses botulinum toxin to interrupt the signals between facial nerves and muscles. The repetitive motion of facial muscles can crease and pull on the skin. The botulinum toxin in Botox® works by stopping the signals from targeted nerves. Without signals to contract, your muscles can relax, making the skin smooth.

What Not to Do After Botox®

Botox® is extremely safe and effective, but you should take a few precautions immediately after treatment. In rare circumstances, Botox® can spread to unwanted areas. You can minimize this possibility by following these tips:

Avoid Lying Down

We will recommend that you avoid lying down for several hours after Botox®. Staying upright helps keep it where it belongs until it has reached its destination. Since most people have Botox® during the day, this is not usually much of an inconvenience.

Hold Off on Exercise

We recommend you put your exercise routine on hold for the rest of the day following Botox®. You can walk or engage in other light activities. However, avoid intense exercise until the next day. This will keep your Botox® from budging.

No Rubbing Your Face

Avoid rubbing your face or using tools like facial rollers for several hours after treatment. Botox® needs time to travel to the nerves and bind with them. Rubbing your face could move it around and cause it to affect other areas.

What Results Will I See After Botox®?

Botox® will reach its targeted destination within four to twelve hours after treatment, and it will not move after this time. You will see results within a few days, with full results taking up to ten days to appear. Most Botox® results last three to four months, although some people may see results for up to six months.

Am I a Good Candidate for Botox®?

Botox® works safely and effectively for most people. Good candidates for Botox® want to address expression lines and wrinkles. You should not have Botox® while pregnant or if you have certain neuromuscular problems.

How Many Units of Botox® Do I Need?

Botox & Fillers New York City

Expression lines and wrinkles can give you a tired or frustrated appearance. You can smooth them away with Botox®, the injectable wrinkle relaxer. Botox® stops the repetitive movements that cause these lines to form, leaving your skin relaxed and even.

What is Botox®?

Over time, almost everyone will develop a few expression lines. They occur in the places where our skin creases when we smile, laugh, or frown. Botox® quiets the activity of the muscles that pull and crease your skin. Without muscle activity,  even deep lines disappear. Botox® lets you look younger, happier, and more refreshed.

Manhattan Botox

Where Can You Have Botox®?

Botox® is FDA-approved for use in these locations:

  • Horizontal forehead lines
  • Glabellar lines (vertical lines between the brows)
  • Crow’s feet around the eyes

Botox® also has many other FDA-approved medical uses. It is also used off-label for other areas such as the nasolabial folds around the nose and mouth.

How Many Units of Botox® Do I Need?

No “right” number of Botox® units exists for any particular application. Facial features, the severity of your lines and wrinkles, and your response to Botox® can dictate how much you will need. In general, most areas require between 20 and 30 units. Men tend to need more than women due to differences in facial anatomy. Deeper lines and wrinkles may also require more units.

How Much Does Botox® Cost?

The cost of Botox® varies by location. The price per unit in New York City ranges from $10 to $20. As a result, 25 units of Botox® would cost between $250 and $500. Schedule a consultation so we can evaluate your concerns and determine how many units you may need.

How Long Does Botox® Last?

Botox® results can become visible within a few days and develop entirely within a week or two. You can expect your results to last three to six months. If you have just started using Botox®, it will usually last three to four months. If you have been using it for a while, your muscles have become accustomed to their relaxed position, and your results can last longer.

Is There Any Downtime With Botox®?

A Botox® appointment can fit into a lunch break, making it an easy and convenient way to look younger. You may have some minor redness or sensitivity in the treated area for a day or two after your injections. You can resume your usual activities after treatment. However, avoid rubbing your face for the next few hours and wait 24 hours to restart your exercise routine.

Am I a Good Candidate for Botox®?

You may be a good candidate for Botox® if you have expression lines and wrinkles you want to eliminate. Ideal candidates understand what they can expect and have no significant medical problems. You should not have Botox® if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

What is Botox® Made Of?

Botox Manhattan

Facial expressions require a symphony of coordinated muscle movements. Some of these movements crease and fold the skin until it develops lines and wrinkles. Botox® stops these muscles so your skin can relax and become smooth. Botox® can let you look noticeably younger without a fake or overdone appearance.

What is Botox®?

Botox® is a wrinkle relaxer injected into facial muscles to improve lines and wrinkles. At Manhattan Aesthetics, our expert injectors have been approved by Allergan, the manufacturer of Botox®. This injectable treatment works by blocking facial nerves from telling muscles to contract. This stops the muscles from creating wrinkles.

Botox Manhattan

What is Botox® Made Of?

Botox® uses a protein called botulinum toxin. A species of bacteria produce this toxin, which can cause rare cases of food poisoning. Botulinum toxin is extremely safe in the tiny doses used for facial injections. This protein interacts with nerves and stops them from releasing a neurotransmitter called acetylcholine. Without this signal, facial muscles become relaxed and smoother. Lines and wrinkles soften and disappear.

What is Botox® Used For?

Botox® has many medical and aesthetic uses. Medically, it can treat excessive sweating, muscle spasms, and other conditions involving overactive muscles or nerves. Aesthetic uses include:

  • Crow’s feet
  • Forehead lines
  • Glabellar lines between the eyebrows
  • Nasolabial folds
  • Marionette lines
  • Neck bands
  • “Gummy” smile
  • Lip lines

Some lines and wrinkles respond better to Botox® than others. You will see the best results with wrinkles caused by muscle movement. Wrinkles caused by sagging skin may respond better to another treatment.

How Much Does Botox® Cost?

Providers set their own prices for Botox®, and this will vary widely by location. Some providers measure Botox® in units, while others charge by the area. The average price per unit is about $14. Most people will need around twenty units to achieve their desired results. We recommend a consultation to provide an accurate estimate based on your goals.

What Results Will I See With Botox®?

Botox® results can take seven to ten days to develop. Botox® has been used for medical purposes for decades and found to be very safe. It can last from three to five months, depending on your individual response. You can expect to see lines and wrinkles soften and become less noticeable. An expert injector will make sure your results look entirely natural.

Is There Any Downtime With Botox®?

You can resume your usual activities immediately after your appointment. You might have some sensitivity or bruising in the injection area, but this will go away within a few days. You should avoid rubbing your face or engaging in strenuous activity for a day after treatment.

Where Can Botox® Be Used?

Manhattan Botox And Dermal Fillers

Botox® was approved in 2002 for cosmetic use, but it has been used since 1989 for medical purposes. This versatile muscle relaxer treats conditions all over the face, neck, and body. Botox® can smooth lines and wrinkles to give you a more youthful, refreshed appearance, but it can also stop conditions like excessive sweating and muscle spasms.

What is Botox® (Botulinum Toxin)?

Botox® is an injectable treatment that relaxes muscles. It smooths wrinkles by stopping the activity of the muscles that cause them. Botox® is FDA-approved to treat crow’s feet, horizontal forehead lines, and vertical wrinkles between the eyebrows (glabellar lines). It also has many approved and off-label medical uses. Off-label aesthetic uses include the neck area, nasolabial folds, and marionette lines.

Manhattan Botox

How Does Botox® Work?

Botox® and similar muscle relaxers use a lab-produced version of botulinum toxin. It works by targeting nerves that control your facial muscles. Nerves signal to muscles with a neurotransmitter called acetylcholine. Botox® temporarily stops these signals, so the muscle stops contracting, and your skin can relax and become smooth. At Manhattan Aesthetics, our Allergan-recognized expert injectors use skill and artistry to inject Botox® in a way that leaves you looking refreshed, not startled or frozen.

Where Can Botox® Be Used?

Botox® has a wide range of uses, both FDA-approved and off-label. These include:

  • Crow’s feet
  • Forehead lines
  • Glabellar lines between the eyebrows
  • Nasolabial folds
  • Marionette lines
  • Excessive sweating
  • Management of acne
  • Neck lines and bands
  • Migraines
  • Muscle spasms
  • Eyelid spasms
  • Overactive bladder
  • Lift the lips or nose

What is the Difference Between Botox® and Fillers?

Botox® and dermal fillers both smooth lines and wrinkles. However, they work in different ways and on different kinds of wrinkles. Botox® works well on expression lines and wrinkles that occur as a result of muscle motion. Dermal fillers work better on deep, stationary lines and wrinkles. You can also use dermal fillers in areas where you do not want the muscle-relaxing effects of Botox®.

What Results Will I See With Botox®?

Botox® results may appear within a few days after treatment, but they take a week to ten days to become completely visible. Botox® results usually last three to four months. They may last up to six months, especially for people who have regular Botox® treatments. You will see lines and wrinkles soften and become smoother, letting you look rejuvenated and youthful.

Is There Any Downtime With Botox®?

Botox® does not require any downtime. You can return to your usual activities after treatment. You should avoid rubbing the treated areas for several hours after your injections to prevent moving the Botox® around. Some people see minor bruising or swelling that lasts a day or two.

Botox® VS Dysport®: What are the Differences?

Botox Manhattan

Our facial expressions communicate our emotions to others. They can also cause lines and wrinkles over time. Botox® and Dysport® both relax these expression lines to let you look wrinkle-free and youthful. While overall very similar, they have some differences that may affect which one your provider chooses for you.

What are Botox® and Dysport®?

Both of these products relax facial muscles to release lines and wrinkles. They both use versions of botulinum toxin to stop the signals between your facial muscles and nerves. The skin can relax without movement from the muscles, and wrinkles become smooth.

Botox Manhattan

Botox® VS Dysport®: What are the Differences?

While Botox® and Dysport® work in the same general way, they have differences that affect which one your provider chooses for you.

  • Dysport® may take effect faster, although both develop within a few days.
  • Botox® tends to last longer, with a duration of up to six months.
  • Dysport® spreads more than Botox®, providing natural-looking results.
  • Dysport® treats glabellar lines (horizontal lines between the brows).
  • Botox® treats glabellar lines, forehead lines, and crow’s feet around the eyes.
  • Dysport® may cost less than Botox®.

Your Manhattan Aesthetics provider will choose the product that will give you the best results.

How Do Botox® and Dysport® Work?

Expression lines on the forehead, between the brows, and around the eyes come from the movement of muscles that move those areas of the face. Botox® and Dysport® interrupt the communication to prevent the muscles from moving and let them relax. Nerves that control the facial muscles use a neurotransmitter called acetylcholine to signal the muscles to contract. The active ingredient in both products stops the action of acetylcholine.

When the muscles relax, they stop pulling on the overlying skin. The skin can relax and become smoother, eliminating the lines and wrinkles that can make you look tired or angry. Because Botox® and Dysport® target specific facial muscles, you will keep your entire range of facial expressions.

Is There Any Downtime with Botox® or Dysport®?

You will not have any downtime after these treatments. Both take only a few minutes to administer. People can have treatment on their lunch break and then return to work afterward. Any minor swelling or bruising should disappear within a few days.

Am I a Good Candidate for Botox® or Dysport®?

If you have moderate to severe lines and wrinkles, you may be a good candidate for Botox® or Dysport®. Both have an extensive history of safety and effectiveness. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, you may not make a good candidate. People who have had a reaction to a botulinum product in the past are usually not good candidates.

Botox® VS Xeomin®: What are the Differences?

Xeomin New York City

Botox® and Xeomin® are injectables sometimes referred to as wrinkle relaxers or neurotoxins. Both offer a fast, effective way to smooth expression lines and wrinkles away. While the name Botox® has become synonymous with neurotoxin injectables, Xeomin® contains a more refined version of the botulinum toxin.

What are Botox® and Xeomin®?

Our facial expressions etch lines and wrinkles into areas like the forehead, brows, and around the eyes as we age. Smiling, frowning, and laughing cause muscles to pull on the skin. Botox® and Xeomin® temporarily stop the activity of these muscles, letting the skin relax and smoothing out even deep lines and wrinkles.

Botox Manhattan

How Do Botox® and Xeomin® Work?

Botox® and Xeomin® operate using the same mechanism. They interact with the nerves that operate the facial muscles. When injected into a targeted muscle, they stop the nerves from sending signals telling the muscles to contract. Because injections use only a tiny amount of the product, treatment can target the muscles causing lines and wrinkles without affecting your natural facial expressions.

Botox® vs. Xeomin®: What are the Differences?

The primary difference between Botox® vs. Xeomin® is that Botox® uses a version of the botulinum toxin bound to other proteins, while Xeomin® contains a purer version of the molecule. For people who prefer no unnecessary extras in their injectables, Xeomin offers a more purified alternative.

Some people find that Botox® loses its effectiveness over many years while Xeomin® may not. It is possible that the accessory proteins in Botox® desensitize the body over a long period, while the purified Xeomin® formula may not trigger the same effect. Your Manhattan Aesthetics provider will discuss your options and choose the best formula for you.

Where can Botox® and Xeomin® Be Used?

The most common uses for Xeomin® and Botox® include crow’s feet around the eyes, vertical lines between the brows, and horizontal forehead lines. While dermal fillers work on static wrinkles such as those caused by gravity, wrinkle relaxers work on dynamic wrinkles caused by muscle movement.

Botox® and Xeomin® can even prevent dynamic wrinkles when you start using them at a younger age. The more time your skin has without pulling and tugging, the longer it will take lines and wrinkles to develop. A treatment session a few times a year can keep you looking young and fresh-faced.

Is There Any Downtime With Botox® or Xeomin®?

There is no downtime with either of these injectables. Botox® and other injectables make popular “lunchtime” treatments that you can get on your lunch break before going back to work. Any minor bruising or swelling will fade within a day or two.

Am I a Good Candidate for Botox® and Xeomin®?

If you have or want to prevent expression lines and wrinkles, you are most likely a good candidate for Botox® or Xeomin®. If you are pregnant, nursing, or have certain neuromuscular conditions, you should not use these products.

How Long Does it Take Botox® to Work?

Botox®, Manhattan & New York City

Botox® is by far the most recognized injectable treatment in the world. It has been around for decades, offering people the chance to reduce the effects of aging and feel more youthful. There is a lot of misinformation about Botox® that can scare people away from the treatment. Therefore, understanding more about these injections is essential.

At Manhattan Aesthetics, we often get questions relating to Botox® injections and how they work. Most of the time, people are keen to understand how long it takes for the treatment to kick in and see results.

Botox Manhattan

Botox® Overview

Before we discuss the effects of Botox® and how quickly they reveal themselves, let’s start by understanding what this injectable actually is.

Botox® is a neurotoxin consisting of botulinum toxin, which is a specific toxin aimed at disrupting nerve signals in the body. When injected into wrinkles, it prevents muscle contractions and helps your facial muscles relax. In turn, this prevents you from making certain facial expressions that often fold up your skin and cause wrinkles.

For example, many people have Botox® injected to prevent frowning, easing the appearance of forehead lines. Relaxing the muscles in your face can make you look younger and also prevent further wrinkles.

How Long Until I See My Botox® Results?

Most people will start seeing small changes 24-48 hours after their injection. Gradually, the effects get even stronger, and you will see the full results in around 30 days. However, the results of Botox® can last for anywhere between 3-6 months before you need a follow-up appointment.

Benefits and Applications for Botox® Injections

Botox® injections will work and they will make you look younger. That’s the main benefit of this injectable; it is proven to work and produce long-lasting results. It’s also non-invasive and FDA-approved, meaning any side effects are either non-existent or extremely rare.

As far as the applications for Botox® go, these injections are mainly used to treat the following:

  • Forehead lines
  • Marionette lines
  • Nasolabial folds
  • Crow’s feet
  • Frown lines

In essence, it has used throughout the face. Some candidates will seek this treatment to get rid of any wrinkles or the problems mentioned above. In other cases, Botox® is used as more of a preventative measure. Even if you don’t have visible wrinkles, you can undergo this treatment to prevent them from forming any time soon.

Botox® Candidates

Botox® is a safe procedure when performed by a licensed medical professional.

It is suitable for a broad range of candidates. In most cases, you are suitable for Botox® if you suffer from any of the problems mentioned earlier, or you’d just like to reduce wrinkles and look more youthful.

However, it is recommended that Botox® is only performed on adults. Also, it isn’t suitable for candidates with nerve problems, particularly issues with the nerves in your face. The expert medical professionals at Manhattan Aesthetics will let you know if this treatment is suitable for you or not.

How Long Will My Botox® Results Last?

IPL Photo Facial New York City

Botox® has long been the anti-aging treatment of choice in the cosmetic enhancement industry. More than 7 million Botox® procedures were performed in the US in 2018, and that number will only continue to grow. The expert injection specialists at Manhattan Aesthetics are among the most talented and elite providers in the country, and it shows in our patient satisfaction and results.

Botox New York City

How Botox® Works

Unfortunately, age stops for no one. The more we smile, laugh, frown, and squint, the more our expressions contribute to wrinkles and lines on our forehead and around our eyes. Botox® has been the quintessential wrinkle eraser since 2002 when it was FDA approved. By blocking acetylcholine in the nerves that instruct muscle movement around your forehead and eyes, Botox® reverses repetitive skin wrinkling for a smoother, younger appearance. Botox® can also elevate the corners of your mouth, reduce upper and lower lip creases, enhance your upper lip for a “Botox® Lip Flip,” and even minimize marionette lines from the nose to the corners of the mouth. Some patients who feel their smile shows too much of their upper gum line can also have Botox® injections to keep their upper lip from rising too much for a more natural, less gummy smile.

Injectable Artistry at Its Finest

Allergan, Botox’s® maker, bestows the finest clinics in the country with different award levels to recognize top tier providers and reassure patients that their injection specialists are among the best of the best. Manhattan Aesthetics received the Black Diamond distinction in 2018, which is awarded only to the top 1% of clinics in the United States and is reserved for only the most talented injection artists. It’s about more than simply injecting the medication in the muscles responsible for forehead wrinkles, brow furrows, and crow’s feet. At Manhattan Aesthetics, there’s no risk of a frozen, surprised, or plastic result with our Botox® treatments. We can reverse the effects of aging with Botox® in a way that appears natural while eliminating a tired, haggard, and worn-out appearance. Not only are your appointments fast and easily scheduled around your busy lifestyle, but your treatments are also effective, producing visible results within 1 week of your appointment.

How Long Does Botox® Last

As one of the fastest-acting cosmetic enhancement treatments, Botox® takes only 3 days to a week to pause muscle movement, giving your face and skin a reprieve from the repetitive motion that deepens wrinkles and lines in the forehead and around the eyes, allowing the skin to repair and renew itself. Once Botox’s® effects take hold, muscle movement is suspended for 3-6 months. After the effects begin to wear off, repeated treatments are recommended to continue enjoying Botox’s® benefits. As with any muscle, lack of movement will shrink and weaken it, so each Botox® treatment will last a little longer each time as your muscles acclimate to reduced use.

Our Manhattan Aesthetics Team is dedicated to the art and science behind Botox® injections, and our patients love us for it. We pride ourselves on our passion for facial rejuvenation and beauty, and our relaxing, spa-like atmosphere will make you feel like royalty during your appointments. What is the Difference Between Botox® and Fillers?

Manhattan Botox And Dermal Fillers

Botox® and dermal fillers are the two most popular cosmetic enhancement treatments in the country, and for good reason. They are minimally invasive, versatile, and effective treatments for the most common signs of aging, like fine lines and wrinkles, and volume loss. Manhattan Aesthetics providers are some of the most elite in the country in the art and science behind Botox® and JUVÉDERM®, the two most recognized names in skincare injectables.

Botox New York City

How Botox® Works

Botox® made a name for itself as the first FDA-approved non-surgical anti-wrinkle treatment back in 2002. The facial expressions we make when we laugh, smile, and live our fullest life, unfortunately, contribute to horizontal forehead lines, between-the-brow furrows, and crow’s feet. Botox® is a toxin that blocks the neurotransmitter acetylcholine from telling our muscles to move. By targeting the muscles behind these upper facial expressions, we can reverse repetitive skin wrinkling for a smoother, more youthful appearance.

How JUVÉDERM® Dermal Fillers Work

The science behind JUVÉDERM® fillers takes a different focus. As we age, we lose the fullness of baby fat in our face, and our skin grows lax and dry. Our lips thin, our cheeks sink, our eyes hollow out, and the lines around our mouths deepen. JUVÉDERM® fillers combat this with a precisely engineered line of smooth gels that, when properly injected, can restore lost volume, fill in lines and wrinkles, and reverse the clock to slow the march of time.

Hyaluronic acid (HA) molecules bring hydration and nutrients to our skin. JUVÉDERM® fillers are made of various sizes of HA molecules linked in several proprietary ways to achieve different gel consistencies and thicknesses designed for specific purposes.

JUVÉDERM® Voluma contours and volumizes sunken cheeks and under-the-eye hollows for up to 2 years.

JUVÉDERM® Volbella is thinner to enhance the delicate tissues around the eyes and mouth for subtle wrinkle filler and plumping of thin lips for up to 12 months.

JUVÉDERM® Vollure is more versatile to attack moderate to severe wrinkles and facial folds, such as deep parentheses and marionette lines around the mouth for up to 18 months.

The Result of Injectable Artistry

At Manhattan Aesthetics, our critically artistic eye and expertise with injectables can add volume to the face for contour and shape, and reverse the effects of age and time by minimizing the appearance of wrinkles. Treatments with Botox® and JUVÉDERM® fillers may only take minutes, but their results last months if not years. With Botox®, patients see results within 1 week, without the risk of a surprised or frozen appearance, and enjoy the results for up to 5 months. JUVÉDERM® results are more immediate, which allows our skilled practitioners to shape and sculpt the gel to achieve the most natural effects in concert with your facial aesthetics. JUVÉDERM® products last anywhere from 12-24 months, depending on your treatment area, the formula best for you, and your particular concerns.

Manhattan Aesthetics has the honor of receiving the Black Diamond Brilliant Distinction award from Allergan, the makers of both Botox® and JUVÉDERM® products. Only 1% of all Allergan injectables providers in the U.S. reach this esteemed level, putting the Manhattan Aesthetics Team among the most elite injectables artists in the country.
