How Does Microdermabrasion Work?
Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive, painless procedure that will remove the upper layers of dead skin, revealing a vibrant and softer complexion. By stripping away the top layer of skin (called the stratum corneum), our doctors can help you achieve a clear, beautiful complexion. The procedure increases rapid cellular turnover and gives the skin a much-needed boost in collagen production.
Our office uses a sophisticated diamond-tipped (crystal-free) handpiece to perform your treatment, as it is a natural mineral and will not irritate your skin. Microdermabrasion is often performed prior to facials, peels, and laser treatments helping yield the best possible results for these procedures.
Am I A Good Candidate for Microdermabrasion?
You may be a good fit for microdermabrasion if you’d like to combat mild-to-moderate aging or sun damage. The procedure is less invasive than traditional dermabrasion techniques and is safe for all skin types and tones. By gently exfoliating the topmost layers of skin, patients can take advantage of total facial rejuvenation with minimal downtime.
Microdermabrasion is an amazing treatment that yields many benefits including;
Minimizing enlarged pores
Softening fine lines and wrinkles by smoothing the skin
Reducing and evening out blemishes
Exfoliating the skin to reveal a healthy glow
Concealing dark spots and blackheads
If you are searching for a microdermabrasion provider, finding practitioners with experience and excellent technique should be your highest priority. Not all microdermabrasion treatments are equal, and in the wrong hands, the results of your treatment can be catastrophic. All our microdermabrasion providers at Manhattan Aesthetics have received the highest level of training possible to ensure a safe and effective treatment.
How Long Does a Typical Treatment Take?
When you receive a microdermabrasion treatment, our doctors will begin by performing a comprehensive skin evaluation. We will then clean and tone your skin, and hot steam will be applied to open up your pores. A diamond-tipped wand is used to polish your skin, removing bacteria, debris, and dead skin cells, all of which are sucked back into the handpiece. Microdermabrasion treatments require 30-60 minutes, depending on the area being treated.
What Results Will I See?*
After microdermabrasion treatments, patients can expect stretch marks, acne scars, and enlarged pores to be less obvious. Increased collagen levels will reduce the appearance of sun-damaged skin and even out overall skin tone. Fine lines and wrinkles will gradually fade as cellular turnover occurs.
One treatment may be enough to address mild complexion issues. However, the majority of men and women need approximately 3-6 sessions spaced 1-week apart to get the initial results they want. Once you’ve met your skincare goals, we recommend maintenance treatments on a monthly basis.
Is There Any Downtime?
No downtime is needed to heal or recover from microdermabrasion treatments. There are very few side effects associated with the procedure but some patients experience slight redness for several hours following treatment. Mild peeling can occur for deeper treatments. Sunblock is encouraged for up to 48-hours post-treatment. Otherwise, you can get back to your normal routine immediately.
