DermaPlaning

Are you bothered by facial peach fuzz on the chin, cheeks, or upper lip?

Has your complexion lost its luster after years of exposure to harmful UV-rays and other environmental stressors? Are vellus hairs preventing smooth makeup application? Would you like to rid yourself of pesky facial hair and restore dull, damaged skin? If so, it might be time to consider non-invasive dermaplaning treatments on a regular basis at Manhattan Aesthetics.

Dermaplaning is an age-old skin resurfacing technique, which originated as a trade secret in the modeling industry. When you receive this treatment, a 10-gauge micro-blade (called a dermatome) is used to remove unwanted peach fuzz and dead skin cells to reveal the dewy, luminous skin beneath. Unlike microdermabrasion, dermaplaning is a manual exfoliation technique that yields a more dramatic result.

How Does Dermaplaning Work?

Dermaplaning is a relatively straightforward procedure that’s performed in-office by one of our highly-skilled medical practitioners. The procedure entails using a micro-blade to remove fine hairs that trap oil and bacteria making applying makeup difficult. Your dermaplaning specialist is also able to remove up to 2-weeks worth of collected dead skin cells and debris revealing a smooth, radiant glow.

Am I A Good Candidate for Dermaplaning?

Because dermaplaning doesn’t involve any chemicals or light therapy, it is safe and effective for all skin types, textures, and tones. Even patients with ultra-sensitive skin can benefit from dermaplaning procedures. If you’re bothered by unwanted vellus facial hair and would like a non-invasive treatment option, dermaplaning may be just what you’ve been looking for.

Dermaplaning is ideal for treating a variety of aesthetic concerns and can help;

Removing fine vellus facial hair
Correcting cystic acne scarring (deep-pitted scars)
Minimizing fine lines
Promoting evenness and texture

During your initial dermaplaning consultation, your skin care provider will determine if the procedure is right for you and customize a treatment plan to maximize the effects of your results.

PATIENT TESTIMONIALS

*Individual results may vary.

How Long Does a Typical Treatment Take?

Dermaplaning is performed by a doctor or a medical aesthetician. We begin by gently cleansing and scrubbing the face to remove excess debris. A sterile dermatome is then used to remove the top layer of skin in a gentle sweeping motion. This procedure takes just 20-minutes and provides you with an instant improvement in the quality of your skin.

What Results Will I See?*

Patients can see immediate results from dermaplaning treatments. Facial peach fuzz will be gone and overall complexion will appear smoother and more radiant. Results from dermaplaning can last up to 2-weeks or more. Dermaplaning is recommended in monthly intervals. The treatment can also be paired with chemical peels for enhanced results.

Is There Any Downtime?

There is no post-treatment care with dermaplaning. The procedure causes almost no redness or irritation making it the ideal lunchtime or before-evening-plans procedure. Makeup can be applied directly after treatment, but the majority of patients are happy to show off their newfound glow.

Will My Hair Grow Back Thicker?

Your facial hair will not grow back thicker following a dermaplaning treatment. Vellus facial hair (peach fuzz) is not the same as terminal hair (the type of hair found on other areas of the body).  Terminal hair is coarse and designed to regulate temperature, and will grow back coarser when cut. Vellus hair is fine and translucent, and when cut, maintains a blunt edge and grows back unaltered.
