What is Kybella®?

How Does Kybella® Work?
Kybella® is a quick, simple injection procedure. Your Manhattan Aesthetics provider will make a series of small injections under your chin to evenly distribute the synthetic deoxycholic acid. This bile acid then begins breaking down and absorbing the fat cells, destroying them so they can no longer store fat. A Kybella® session takes just 15-20 minutes.
What to Expect After Kybella®
The most common side effects of Kybella® are mild bruising, swelling, and tenderness at the injection sites. These typically subside within a week or two. However, occasionally, patients experience significant swelling from Kybella® that lasts longer. This is fairly uncommon, but we don’t recommend getting Kybella® within a month of a special event in case of lingering swelling.
There’s no downtime after Kybella®, and you can return to work the next day. Some patients take a few days of social downtime until the swelling fades. We’ll give you aftercare instructions for minimizing swelling, such as using ice packs, wearing a chin strap, and avoiding certain things that may increase swelling.
How Long Does Kybella® Last?
Most patients need two or more treatments spaced one month apart for optimal Kybella® results. It takes time for the deoxycholic acid to break down the targeted fat, which your body absorbs. Some patients need up to six sessions of Kybella®.
Once you achieve your desired results, they should be permanent. The destroyed fat cells cannot return. However, the remaining fat cells in the area can expand if you gain weight, so a healthy lifestyle is essential for long-lasting results.
