Dermal fillers provide an excellent option for treating deep lines and volume loss. However, frequent return visits can become frustrating. If you prefer a longer-lasting filler option, you might be a good candidate for Sculptra®. Unlike many other fillers, Sculptra® triggers collagen production, adding natural volume over time.
What is Sculptra®?
Sculptra® is a dermal filler made from a synthetic material called poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA). PLLA is biocompatible and biodegradable, which means it is safe to use in the body and will eventually be broken down and eliminated by the body’s natural processes. Sculptra® has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) since 2004 for treating facial wrinkles and folds.
How Does Sculptra® Work?
Sculptra® works by stimulating the body’s collagen production. Collagen is a protein that gives the skin its structure and elasticity. It is essential for maintaining a youthful appearance. Our body’s collagen production decreases as we age, leading to wrinkles, sagging skin, and volume loss. By stimulating collagen production, Sculptra® can help restore volume and improve the skin’s overall appearance.
How Often Should I Get Sculptra® Treatments?
The number of Sculptra® treatments you will need depends on your goals and the severity of your wrinkles and folds. Most people require two to three treatments, four to six weeks apart, to achieve optimal results. Full results can take several months to become visible.
Once you have achieved your desired results with Sculptra®, maintenance treatments may be recommended to maintain the treatment’s effects. The frequency of maintenance treatments will depend on your needs and goals and the rate at which your body breaks down the PLLA material. Sculptra® lasts at least two years and sometimes more, making it one of the longest-lasting dermal fillers.
What Does Sculptra® Treat?
Sculptra® is primarily used to treat facial wrinkles and folds. These include nasolabial folds (creases around the nose and mouth), marionette lines (lines around the mouth and chin), and chin wrinkles. It can also be used to restore volume to the cheeks, temples, and jawline and improve the skin’s overall texture and tone.
Is There Any Downtime With Sculptra®?
Sculptra® requires no downtime, and you can return to work or other activities immediately. Avoid rubbing or massaging the treated area for several hours after the treatment, as this can cause the product to shift and result in an uneven appearance. Additionally, we recommend avoiding strenuous exercise or activities that may cause excessive sweating for 24 hours after the treatment.
Am I a Good Candidate for Sculptra®?
Almost anyone can safely have Sculptra®. Ideal candidates want to restore lost facial volume and smooth deep lines and wrinkles. You should not have Sculptra® if you have had an allergic reaction to poly-L-lactic acid or are pregnant. Only a consultation can determine whether Sculptra® is the best dermal filler option.
