What is Botox® Made Of?
Botox® uses a protein called botulinum toxin. A species of bacteria produce this toxin, which can cause rare cases of food poisoning. Botulinum toxin is extremely safe in the tiny doses used for facial injections. This protein interacts with nerves and stops them from releasing a neurotransmitter called acetylcholine. Without this signal, facial muscles become relaxed and smoother. Lines and wrinkles soften and disappear.
What is Botox® Used For?
