What are the Benefits of Chemical Peels?

Chemical Peel Manhattan

About Chemical Peels

Chemical peels can be conducted on the skin of the hands, neck, face, or chest and can help with several visible skin concerns, including sun damage, aging, and acne scarring. As a non-invasive cosmetic treatment that is easily customized to suit each individual’s needs, chemical peels are popular with both men and women of all ages looking to improve the health and visible appearance of their skin.

Chemical peels get their name from their composition because they contain a combination of non-toxic acid ingredients such as trichloroacetic acid (TCA), which is used to clear away dead skin cells. Despite having the word ‘chemical’ in their name, chemical peels have been carefully formulated to remove only the very top layers of skin to promote cell growth and rejuvenation from beneath

Types of Chemical Peel Treatments

Here at Manhattan Aesthetics, we offer a large variety of chemical peels that are specially formulated to suit your individual needs. Your medically trained practitioner will help determine which type of peel is right for you during your initial consultation.

VI Peel

The VI Peel is one of the most popular types of chemical peel and is designed to treat hyperpigmentation. After just one application, patients can expect to see brighter, clearer, and more even-toned skin, though it is advised that they follow up with additional sessions for best results.

Alpha-hydroxy Acid (AHA Peel)

AHA peels are formulated to tackle dry and rough skin and improve the skin’s texture.

Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA Peel)

For those concerned with fine lines, wrinkles, blemishes, or hyperpigmentation, a TCA peel can even out the skin tone and reduce the appearance of fine lines and imperfections.

Phenol Peel

And finally, for those with skin discoloration from sun damage, aging, or birth control pills, a Phenol peel can help to restore skin to its natural color.

Benefits of Chemical Peel Treatments

Chemical peel treatments can benefit a wide range of skin complaints including, hyperpigmentation, skin discoloration, blemishes, fine lines, wrinkles, sunspots, and acne scarring. Slowly resurfacing the skin one layer at a time, chemical peels remove dead skin, trigger the body’s natural healing response, boost collagen, and improve skin tone and texture.

Am I a Candidate for Chemical Peels?

Chemical peels are generally safe for most people because they can be customized at different strengths to suit the skin sensitivity of the individuals’ skin. Most chemical peels are also administered over several treatments, which means that they can be stopped if irritation occurs. Some people that chemical peels may not be suitable for include those with large skin sags, or severe wrinkles as these conditions tend not to respond well to chemical treatment. Here at Manhattan Aesthetics, at your initial consultation, a member of our highly trained medical staff will conduct a thorough assessment of your skin to ensure that you are the right candidate for a chemical peel procedure. They will then discuss the different treatment options available to you and talk to you through the aftercare process. If, for whatever reason, your skin is not suitable for a chemical peel, then they will also be able to suggest some other non-invasive procedures to help solve your skin concern.

What is Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is not a new skincare technique, but it has gained popularity in recent years thanks to its use by celebrities and models. Whether you first came across the term in a beauty magazine or a close friend let you in on their new skincare secret, here’s what you need to know about the dermaplaning procedure.

Dermaplaning New York City

*Individual results may vary.

About Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning is an exfoliation technique in which a 10-gauge micro-blade (also referred to as a skin dermatome) is used to gently remove unwanted facial hair, dead skin cells, and oil to reveal the luminous and dewy skin beneath. Unlike microdermabrasion, which gently sands away the skin’s surface with a mildly abrasive device, dermaplaning causes less damage to the skin while providing a more dramatic end result.

During the dermaplaning procedure, one of our medically trained and highly skilled practitioners will prepare your skin before gently using the micro-blade on the surface of your face, scraping away any build-up of dead skin cells, makeup residue and the fine hairs that can trap oil and bacteria leading to blemishes. In just one dermaplaning session, your practitioner can remove up to two-weeks worth of dead skin cells from your face, allowing your fresh and glowy skin beneath to shine through.

Dermaplaning Benefits

Although dermaplaning and the thought of using a blade on your face can sound a little scary, it is important to remember that the procedure is conducted by an experienced dermaplaning professional who has been trained on how to safely use the blade on the skin of your face without causing any pain, harm or injury. Worries aside, dermaplaning can also provide a number of very significant benefits, including;

  1. Providing instant results, leaving you with smoother and more radiant skin from your first visit.
  2. Working well in conjunction with other skin treatments such as chemical peels.
  3. Requiring no downtime whatsoever, so you can get back to your routine straight away.
  4. Being suitable for sensitive skin because no harsh products or chemicals are used.
  5. Reducing hyperpigmentation and helping to even out skin tone.
  6. Helping to reduce acne scars by promoting evenness in skin texture and promoting healing.
  7. And helping makeup to go on more smoothly by removing unwanted villus facial hairs.

Am I a Candidate for Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is safe for all skin types, textures, and skin tones because the treatment does not involve any chemicals or light therapy that could potentially cause irritation. Even those with extremely sensitive skin or acne and who are unable to have other chemical-based facial treatments can safely enjoy the dermaplaning procedure. Whether you are looking to remove unwanted villus hair, minimize the look of fine lines and wrinkles, exfoliate dead skin, or prevent oil build-up, dermaplaning could be the procedure for you. During your initial dermaplaning consultation at Manhattan Aesthetics, your skincare provider will conduct a thorough skin assessment to make sure that the method is right for you, and will walk you through the answers to any questions or queries that you may have about the procedure.

What Treatments are Available for Acne?

Acne can affect men and women of all ages, causing lumps, bumps and painful pimples to appear on the skin. If left untreated, acne can plague people for many years, leaving them with scarring that can last a lifetime. If you suffer from adult acne and dream of having a smooth, clear complexion, then it might be time to consider a non-surgical acne treatment from Manhattan Aesthetics.

Effective Acne Treatments

Here at Manhattan Aesthetics, our highly trained and board-certified doctors can offer you not one, but two, non-surgical and effective acne treatments – Aerolase®  and chemical peel. Both of these acne treatments have a proven track record with treating active acne and have helped hundreds of people to eliminate their acne for good.

Aerolase® Treatments

Aerolase® is an innovative light treatment that uses a powerful but gentle laser called a LightPod Neo (1064nm). This laser pulses at one-billionth of a second delivering light deep into the collagen of the skin, promoting regeneration, and helping to solve a number of skin conditions including hyperpigmentation, sun spots, rosacea, stretch marks, fine lines, wrinkles, and acne. For active acne sufferers, the Aerolase® treatment can be used to sterilize and dry up problem sebaceous glands that secrete acne-causing bacteria.

Chemical Peels

The second non-invasive acne treatment offered by Manhattan Aesthetics is a chemical peel. Chemical peels work by gently resurfacing the layers of the skin using a fine balance of mild abrasives. This process triggers the body’s healing response, promoting faster cell turnover, and helping to create a smoother surface to the skin. Chemical peels can be personalized depending on each individual’s needs, and for acne, the two most common options are the VI Peel and the AHA Peel. The peel that is right for you will depend on a couple of different factors that can be discussed with your doctor.

Benefits of Acne Treatments

The most obvious benefit of acne treatments, such as Aerolase® or a chemical peel like the VI peel or the AHA peel, is that they can dramatically reduce the appearance of active acne, helping to minimize scarring and providing patients with a more even skin tone. But in addition to treating the physical symptoms of acne, these two acne treatments are also non-surgical, meaning that they involve minimal, if any, downtime so that you can get back to your normal routine as soon as possible. As popular anti-aging treatments, both Aerolase® and chemical peels also help to improve the overall health of the skin too.

Am I a Candidate for Acne Treatments?

Both Aerolase® and chemical peel treatments are both highly adjustable making them safe and effective for most skin types and the majority of cases of adult acne, however, to make sure that you are a suitable candidate, one of our expertly qualified doctors, Dr. Morris Westfried who is a double board-certified dermatologist, will provide you with a consultation to assess your skin condition and to make sure that the acne treatment is right for you.

What is IPL?

Our IPL treatments are ideal for patients with darkly pigmented skin or fine lines that are easily visible. It is a non-invasive procedure that corrects many superficial imperfections on the surface of the skin. There’s no downtime, so you can leave our practice and carry on with your usual routine straight away. With an average of 30-60 minutes for treatments, it’s no surprise that IPL is a hot procedure at Manhattan Aesthetics.

IPL Photo Facial New York City

About Intense Pulsed Light

IPL stands or intense pulsed light, which is a series of different wavelengths that are applied to your skin. There are similarities between IPL and our laser skin treatments, but also some differences. Both treatments apply wavelengths to your skin, but laser treatments only focus on one specific wavelength in a more focused area. IPL has multiple wavelengths in a less focused area.

When IPL is applied to your skin, it will penetrate down below the top layer into the dermis. From here, collagen will expand and blood vessels will constrict, getting rid of pigments and other imperfections. Cells absorb the light energy from the IPL device, turning it into heat. This is what causes the expansion and constriction, destroying all your unwanted pigments.

It is a non-surgical procedure that can be done in as little as 30 minutes with no downtime. As a result, this is a highly sought after treatment for people with minor skin blemishes or other superficial imperfections that are causing confidence issues.

IPL Benefits

The benefits of IPL are extensive. For one, it is a relatively painless procedure – most patients experience no pain at all, with some feeling a mild stinging sensation. You don’t need to undergo surgery, you don’t need to spend weeks recovering – it’s something you can come in for on your lunch break and leave without any issues.

Secondly, it can treat a range of very common skin problems:

  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Unwanted freckles/liver spots
  • Enlarged pores
  • Sun damage
  • Large blood vessels
  • Wrinkles and fine lines

Furthermore, it treats these problems without causing excessive damage to the upper layer of your skin. This is thanks to the way IPL wavelengths are dispersed and not focused. The top layer of your skin stays unharmed, while the surface issues are solved from deeper down.

Of course, you also see very fast results that progressively get better a the months progress. These results can be enhanced if you take care to protect your skin following treatments with a good sunscreen.

Am I a Candidate for IPL Treatments?

Do you often feel self-conscious due to minor issues on your skin? Perhaps you have hyperpigmentation or an unwanted freckle? If you’re looking for a cosmetic procedure that doesn’t require surgery or use any needles, this could be perfect for you. It is virtually painless, and we can even provide some numbing cream if you’re overly sensitive. If you have any superficial imperfections that get on your nerves and make you feel anxious, this is one of the best ways of getting rid of them and seeing long term results.

What are the Benefits of Vivace RF Microneedling?

Manhattan Aesthetics offers a wider range of cosmetic treatments to help your skin. Amongst our many offerings, we’re pleased to provide the revolutionary Vivace microneedling RF service. This is ideal for treating a plethora of complexion issues and skin conditions. The results are extremely quick, making it a highly popular treatment amongst our clients.

Vivace RF Microneedling New York City

*Individual results may vary.

What is Vivace RF Microneedling?

Vivace RF is a brand name referring to a specific microneedling product that we use at Manhattan Aesthetics. The RF stands for radio frequency, which is essentially the secret component of this treatment. It’s what sets Vivace RF microneedling apart from some of the other microneedling procedures we have on offer.

The Vivace system is comprised of a microneedle with 36 gold-plated tips that insert into the skin at different depths. This happens as the device is passed over your skin, creating multiple micro-punctures. At the same time, the device uses radiofrequency to produce heat energy that’s delivered into your skin. This is proven to have many benefits, of which we will discuss shortly. Ultimately, this is a skin resurfacing procedure that can treat anything from crow’s feet to stretch marks and acne scars.

Benefits of Vivace RF

One of the key benefits, as just mentioned, is that Vivace RF can treat a variety of conditions. As well as the ones listed above, it also helps reduce pore size, resurface bumpy skin, reduce wrinkles, tighten your skin, and reduce the appearance of fine lines.

Alongside this, Vivace RF also has the following advantages:

  • A non-surgical treatment that’s minimally invasive. It’s also not very painful as the numbing gel is applied before the procedure takes place.
  • Almost no downtime is required following the treatment, you can go about your day as normal and even go out to dinner on the same day!
  • See results extremely quickly – some people only need one treatment to see their desired results, while the average is three treatments.
  • The use of RF produces heat that is proven to increase collagen and elastin production in your skin cells. As a result, this will naturally improve the appearance of your skin by making it tighter and firmer.
  • The Vivace RF device has 31 different settings, allowing for more customization to suit each patient’s specific skin problems.

Overall, this is an excellent treatment option if you’re looking for quick improvements without any downtime or surgery. It also has the benefit of being backed by science to prove that it works and can improve your skin.

Am I a Candidate for Vivace RF Microneedling?

The beauty of this treatment is that anyone can be an ideal candidate. We use numbing cream before the procedure, so you don’t have to worry about pain at all. If you’re keen to treat fine lines, wrinkles, scars, or other skin issues, this could be the service for you. Every patient receives a consultation to ensure that they are paying for the right treatment based on their skin problems. So, you don’t have to worry about paying for something that won’t work for you.

What Areas Can be Treated with SculpSure?

SculpSure is an innovative treatment offered by Manhattan Aesthetics that removes excess fat from areas of the body prone to fat accumulation, including the buttocks, back of thighs, inner thighs, and outer thighs back, upper arms, love handles, lower abdomen and upper abdomen. It is non-invasive, and you can return to your regular schedule immediately following treatment.

What is SculpSure?

SculpSure is a body contouring system that helps people lose stubborn fat if diet and exercise alone do not suffice. Unlike liposuction, the technique does not rely on penetrating the skin to remove the fat. Instead, it works by killing a portion of the fat cells under the surface, causing the body to remove and recycle them.

Manhattan Aesthetics uses certified equipment to target laser energy towards fat cells beneath the skin, heating and killing them, causing the fat to melt away. Typically, the treatment kills around 25 percent of all subcutaneous cells, removing them from the body and visibly reducing signs of excess fat in problem areas.

Please note that SculpSure and CoolSculpting are not the same. They rely on fundamentally different technologies. SculpSure uses a laser to heat fat cells, while CoolSculpting relies on cooling or freezing fat cells to death. Clinical experience suggests that SculpSure may work more effectively on non-pinchable fat.

Treatment usually lasts around 25 minutes, and most patients receive a total of four sessions. Weight loss is not immediate. Once the fat cells die, it takes the body some time to remove and process them. Most patients see results within four to six weeks. The full effects of the treatment occur in around twelve weeks.

SculpSure Treatment Areas

SculpSure is a versatile treatment system that you can apply to multiple areas of the body, including those most prone to pockets of fat.

Manhattan Aesthetics uses SculpSure to remove fat from the:

Upper thighs
Upper arms
Abdomen
Back
Buttocks
Flanks

Fat can accumulate in other places, but the purpose of this treatment is to eliminate it from the most stubborn areas – such as the middle section of the body. Manhattan Aesthetics Recommend using therapy in regions with the highest concentration of fat cells.

Am I a Candidate for SculpSure?

The ideal candidate for SculpSure is somebody within 30 pounds of their ideal weight and a BMI under 30. They should also be physically active and in good health in general. SculpSure is not recommended as a substitute for diet and lifestyle modification. Instead, it provides patients with assistance to remove the last bit of fat and get into the best shape of their lives. After treatment, patients see substantial improvements in the way they look. Arms, legs, and torsos all become leaner and more defined when combined with a healthy lifestyle.

Some patients can experience a little tenderness the day after treatment, but there is no need to remain in care. You can return to your regular life immediately following the procedure.

How Much Does Laser Hair Removal Cost?

For many, their least favorite grooming chore is hair removal. Shaving, waxing, and plucking all take time and have varying degrees of pain. However, many think the cost of laser hair removal is greater, so they simply endure. With regular hair removal methods averaging a lifetime cost between $5,000-$7,000 or more, laser hair removal at Manhattan Aesthetics is a better investment than you think.

Laser hair removal New York City

How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?

The key to successful laser hair removal is matching the laser’s wavelengths of light and pulse duration to the pigment (melanin) in the hair while avoiding affecting similar pigment in the skin. At Manhattan Aesthetics, we use three types of laser to accommodate patients of any skin type and hair color. The Nd:YAG laser is best for patients with darker skin while the Alexandrite laser is designed for patients with light hair color and pale skin. Diode lasers are safe on darker skin types and are ideal for thick, coarse hair, so they are a favorite of men. After selecting the appropriate handpiece, wavelength, and calibration, your Manhattan Aesthetics provider passes the handpiece directly over the treatment area, where hair in the active growth phase absorbs it, damaging the follicle so it will shed.

Am I a Good Candidate for Laser Hair Removal?

Your candidacy is best determined with an in-person consultation, but most people qualify for laser hair removal regardless of their Fitzpatrick skin tone level with the right lasers. At the time of your consultation, you’ll learn the process and how many treatments your particular unwanted hair will require for successful removal.

What are Laser Hair Removal Treatments Like?

Most modern day lasers have safety cooling tips designed to minimize skin discomfort and the risk of burning. Many patients liken the sensation to a rubber band snapping against the skin, and we offer topical anesthetic cream for your comfort. Smaller areas only take 5-10 minutes while larger areas like the legs can require an hour to complete.

Laser Hair Removal Downtime and Results

With laser hair removal, there’s little downtime. However, precautions like avoiding sun exposure or tanning of any kind, foregoing exfoliating until after the hair sheds, and taking a 24-hour break from strenuous exercise are strongly urged.

Laser hair removal achieves at least an 85% reduction in unwanted hair, and many of our patients have as much as 99% reduction. Results vary from patient to patient, and sometimes hormone changes can cause regrowth. It’s nothing a touch-up session can’t fix. Treatments target unwanted hair only in the active growth phase, so 6-8 sessions are necessary to remove as much hair as possible. Most patients notice significant reduction after 3 visits.

Laser Hair Removal Average Costs

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the average cost of laser hair removal is $429. However, costs vary widely depending on your treatment area. Legs will cost more than underarms or bikini lines. Averages by body part are:

Face and neck: $600-$900

Arms: $350-$500

Bikini area: $350-$500

Lower legs: $600-$850

Back: $600-$900

Chest: $350-$600

At Manhattan Aesthetics, all laser treatments are performed by a board certified physician or medical aesthetician under the guidance of our world-renowned medical director. Say goodbye to unwanted hair for a lifetime of silky smooth skin.

Am I a Candidate for CoolTone Treatments?

CoolTone Manhattan

Do you eat right and exercise all the right muscles groups but still find yourself frustrated by lack of muscle tone and definition? Have you always wanted 6-pack abs but they’ve always been just out of reach? Don’t get discouraged. Get CoolTone™ treatments at Manhattan Aesthetics.

CoolTone New York City

How Do CoolTone Treatments Work?

The idea is simple: contract the muscles of the abdomen, buttocks, or thighs to strengthen and firm up muscle fibers for more defined muscles. It’s like exercise turned up to eleven. CoolTone™ achieves this through magnetic muscle stimulation (MMS) deep within the target muscles to induce super maximal contractions. These contractions are much stronger than voluntary muscle contractions performed during exercises like crunches or squats. Specific muscles are targeted to increase muscle fiber strength, resulting in better conditioning and definition than ever before.

Am I a Good Candidate?

Many patients consider CoolTone™ to be the next step after having body sculpting treatments like SculpSure® or TruSculpt® ID. Like most sculpting treatments, CoolTone™ works best for patients who are at or near their ideal body weight but are struggling to get muscle definition despite exercise and an energetic lifestyle. As such, CoolTone™ is not an effective weight loss method for overweight or obese patients. Patients with medical device implants such as a pacemaker or cochlear implant may also not qualify for CoolTone™ treatments. Women considering scheduling CoolTone™ appointments should do so with consideration to their menstrual cycle, as the muscle contractions can intensify cramping. But if you’re tired of all your gym dedication not paying off, CoolTone™ could be your answer.

What are Treatments Like?

During your 360-degree patient evaluation with the Manhattan Aesthetics team, we’ll discuss your goals and take photos to track your progress with CoolTone™. Most patients require 4-8 appointments, scheduled twice a week for 2 weeks for maximum results. The MMS device will be affixed to the treatment area and your muscle contractions begin. The sensation is warm and intense contractions that may take a few minutes to become accustomed to, and continues for 1-2 hours. There is no downtime.

When Will I See Results?

Results from any workout take time to develop, so you can expect results only after repeated treatments. After the first 3 weeks, results become visible with the outcome peaking after the 4th session. You really can have the physique you’ve been unable to achieve through diet and exercise alone. In order to maintain results, we recommend follow-up treatments every 3-6 months as needed to continue your muscle tone and definition for the long-term. Muscles require continued stimulation to maintain their size and strength, so following an energetic lifestyle will help.

With CoolTone™, you can have the body you’ve always dreamed of, including 6-pack abs, a sculpted butt, and strong thighs. At Manhattan Aesthetics, we have crafted a stellar reputation for a reason, and we pride ourselves on being the first clinic in New York, and sometimes the first clinic in the nation or even the world, to bring state-of-the-art treatments, technologies, and experiences to our patients. Our world renowned medical director oversees our highly trained staff, certified in a variety of specializations to give the most comprehensive and well-rounded care available in New York City.

Sculptra Manhattan

Cellulite Removal Treatments

ThermiSmooth® does more than melt away cellulite. It also tightens the skin with state-of-the-art radiofrequency (RF) technology, so your cellulite and that dreaded “orange peel” texture of your skin disappear. The RF energy heats fat cells and disrupts their membranes, which your body metabolizes out through the lymphatic system. Not only is your skin tighter and more toned, but the cellulite that caused the lumps and bumps in the first place are also gone and it’s not coming back.

TruSculpt® ID takes the same principle of ThermiSmooth® and ramps it up to eleven. If your concern is a greater concentration of fat, or if you’ve done everything you can and those stubborn fat pockets aren’t going anywhere, TruSculpt® ID is for you. The patented low-frequency monopolar RF energy penetrates your tissues not just to target the fat, but the entire adipose pad. This amazing treatment then adjusts the energy output to account for fibrous tissues, making it a truly personalized weapon in your arsenal against cellulite.

Am I a Good Candidate?

ThermiSmooth® may be ideal for patients who are within 30 pounds of their ideal weight with more concerns about skin laxity and dimpling due to cellulite. TruSculpt® ID is indicated for any patients with cellulite concerns, even those considered obese or morbidly obese. It’s the first treatment approved of its kind.

What are Treatments Like?

ThermiSmooth® treatments begin with a cool gel applied to the treatment area, where the handpiece will gently massage in circles to deliver the RF energy. The procedure takes between 15-45 minutes, and you’ll remain comfortable throughout.

TruSculpt® ID treatments involve attaching applicators to your treatment area, where the revolutionary RF energy will be directed. Most patients find the treatment soothing and spend their time relaxing, reading, or even sleeping. Treatments are fast, in some cases, only 15 minutes.

Downtime and Results

Because both treatments are completely non-invasive and don’t involve laser energy, there’s no downtime at all.

Both treatments also change your body at the cellular level, so it takes time for results to visibly progress. With ThermiSmooth® your skin will become tighter, smoother, and cellulite bumps will disappear over a 3-month period, with long-lasting results of up to a year. Maintenance treatments may be required to continue tightening skin and keeping cellulite at bay. Results with TruSculpt® ID similarly take 3 months, with the possibility of a fantastic 35% reduction in fat. Most patients only need 1 treatment to see these results. The best part is once those fat cells are filtered away, they’re gone. A healthy lifestyle will maintain the remaining fat cells, but new ones won’t form.

At Manhattan Aesthetics our skilled team has made it our mission to help our patients achieve their ideal self-image so they can live their healthiest, most authentic life. No covering up stubborn fat anymore. We can help you melt away the fat with these truly revolutionary treatments.

Can Microdermabrasion Help with Acne Scars?

New York City Microdermabrasion

The quick answer is yes. The impact of acne scars can be far greater than the scars themselves, robbing us of self-confidence and affecting our relationships if we’re too self-conscious about our appearance. At Manhattan Aesthetics, our microdermabrasion procedure is a safe, non-invasive treatment that can minimize acne scarring and help prevent new ones from forming.

New York City Microdermabrasion

*Individual results may vary.

Microdermabrasion for Acne Scars

Microdermabrasion addresses a variety of skin-related concerns, but in relation to acne scars, it really can help. The Manhattan Aesthetics team uses a diamond-tipped handpiece to remove the upper layer of dead skin called the stratum corneum. The natural mineral tip of the handpiece doesn’t irritate the skin while it clears debris, bacteria, old and damaged skin cells to reveal smooth skin underneath, prompt cellular turnover, and boost collagen production.

For acne scar treatment, microdermabrasion works best on depressed acne scars, which create pits in the skin that are flat against the epidermis. Deeper scars, like ice pick scars, aren’t as successfully treated. If you’re experiencing nodular or cystic acne breakouts, talk to your Manhattan Aesthetics practitioner about the best way to treat your acne scars. Microdermabrasion may not be the best procedure for this condition as it can worsen inflammation. Stripping away the top layer of skin, however, can clear up certain types of acne breakouts, which can prevent new scars from forming.

Am I a Good Candidate?

Microdermabrasion may be right for you if your acne scars reside on the epidermis, and you’re ready for a smooth, luminous, clear complexion without a lot of downtime or harsher treatments and prescriptions. Schedule a consultation for more information.

What are Treatments Like?

Microdermabrasion treatment in the luxurious Manhattan Aesthetics clinic begins with a comprehensive skin evaluation and thorough cleaning and toning of your skin. Hot steam is applied to open your pores, and the microdermabrasion handpiece then polishes away the damaged skin cells of your topmost layer. The process takes between 30-60 minutes depending on the treatment area.

Downtime and Results

Microdermabrasion comes with almost no downtime and few side effects. Patients may experience redness and sensitivity for a few hours after treatment. For deeper treatments, there may be mild peeling. Sunscreen is critical for at least 48 hours following treatment. Your routine may be immediately resumed.

Results are often achieved with multiple sessions, between 3-6 or possibly more for patients with more damage to treat. With each treatment, the depth and rigidity of the acne scars are reduced as healthy skin cells replace scar tissue and collagen forms to more thoroughly support the skin. Monthly treatments may be recommended once you’ve reached your goals to prevent future scars from forming and keep your complexion at its healthiest and most glowing.

Finding microdermabrasion providers with the experience and technique that most effectively treats acne scars can be a challenge. In the wrong hands, microdermabrasion can be much more devastating to those with acne scars and current acne breakouts. At Manhattan Aesthetics our skilled team has the highest possible level of training, years of experience, and passion to properly and effectively treat your acne scars with microdermabrasion. Not all microdermabrasion treatments are equal—at Manhattan Aesthetics, ours are a cut above the rest.
