Juvederm® VS Restylane®: What are the Differences?

Both Juvederm® and Restylane® are types of dermal fillers available for patients at Manhattan Aesthetics. We give you a choice between these two, with each carrying unique properties. Nevertheless, both of these dermal fillers have similarities in the conditions they treat. Both are predominantly used to treat wrinkles, both are non-invasive, and both elicit fast-acting results. However, there are some differences between the two that are worth understanding before you choose your treatment.

About Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are some of the most popular and mainstream cosmetic treatments around. They consist of injected solutions into the skin at various depths, filling fine lines and smoothing out wrinkles. Dermal fillers can also add more volume to your face, giving it a younger appearance. These injectables offer impressive results that can last for over a year before the body absorbs the solution. Hence, to maintain the results, multiple injections are required over time. You will find many types and brands of dermal fillers, including Juvederm® and Restylane®.

Differences Between Juvederm® and Restylane®

Juvederm® and Restylane® are both hyaluronic acid dermal fillers. They contain the same solution and are used to treat similar problems. So, how do they differ from one another?

Restylane® adds more volume.

A significant difference between the two dermal fillers is how they work when injected into your skin. Restylane® tends to have a higher viscosity than Juvederm®, meaning it is a thicker solution. Therefore, its application is often used when you want to add more volume and plumpness to your face – particularly the lips and cheeks.

Juvederm® is better for smoothing out wrinkles.

Unlike Restylane®, Juvederm® injections don’t tend to hold their form as strongly. Instead, the solution is more prone to spread out throughout your face, ironing away wrinkles and fine lines. Thus, Juvederm® is more effective at reversing these signs of aging and giving you smoother skin. While it can still add volume, it’s not as effective at filling in sunken areas.

There are multiple types of Juvederm® fillers.

At Manhattan Aesthetics, we have numerous types of Juvederm® fillers available. This menu of dermal fillers includes Juvederm® Voluma, Volbella, and Vollure. Each one is designed to treat a specific cosmetic complaint, offering excellent and long-lasting results. Restylane® doesn’t have the same diversity, which might be something you consider when choosing which filler to opt for. It mainly depends on your concerns, and we will help you find the dermal filler that provides the best solution.

Benefits of Dermal Fillers

An overriding benefit of dermal fillers is that they provide near-instant effects lasting for a very long time. Both Restylane® and Juvederm® can last over a year before any touch-ups are required. Another advantage of dermal fillers is that you will not be injected with foreign substances or chemicals. They contain substances already present in the body, which means they get absorbed when the effects wear off.

Lastly, dermal fillers have the benefit of being minimally-invasive, with minimal downtime. Numbing cream is used to make you as comfortable as possible, and you can usually get on with your daily routine as soon as you leave.
