What is Hyperpigmentation?

A variety of triggers can cause patches of skin cells to produce excessive amounts of a pigment called melanin. While patches of hyperpigmentation are usually harmless, they can make you self-conscious. People of all skin tones can develop hyperpigmentation.

What Causes Hyperpigmentation?

Dermal fillers come in several different materials and formulas, each suited for different applications. These include:

Juvederm®

How Long Do Dermal Fillers Last?

Different types of dermal fillers have different lifespans. The body will eventually remove all dermal fillers, but some produce results that last even after they fade away. Hyaluronic acid fillers can generally last anywhere from six months to two years. Flexible formulas such as those intended for the lips will last six to twelve months, while sturdier fillers can last eighteen months or longer.

Materials like calcium hydroxylapatite and Poly-L-Lactic acid, contained in Radiesse® and Sculptra®, stimulate collagen production. This collagen adds volume and firmness to the skin, lifting sagging areas and smoothing lines and wrinkles. These fillers and the resulting collagen can last two to three years.

Is There Any Downtime With Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers require no downtime. You can resume activities immediately after your injections. You may notice some swelling, bruising, or soreness for a day or two. The lack of downtime makes the Sculptra® butt lift an appealing alternative for those looking to avoid the extensive downtime of a surgical butt lift.
